Improved Forest Management (IFM) is an agriculture, forestry and land-use project category in the VCS. Forest management activities which result in increased carbon stocks within forests and/or reduce greenhouse gas emissions from forestry activities when compared to business‐as-usual forestry practices.

IFM includes activities such as growing older forests, stocking improvement, retention of the best-growing trees, avoiding damage of retained trees at harvest, etc. The project activity will contribute to the environment (biodiversity conservation and soil erosion control), thus contributing to sustainable development.
